Appleton Opens 2020 with Silver
Perennial Ironman 70.3 Champion Sam Appleton opened his 2020 season with a solid performance at the Ironman Australian 70.3 Championships in Geelong with a 2nd place finish. Sam was first out of the water with eventual winner Josh Amberger hot on his tail and a minute plus on the strong Aussie field, including 5x Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander. Appleton put down a 2.04.40 bike split, the days fastest, and rode into T2 with a 3 second lead on Amberger. The two young Aussies had a solid lead of nearly 3 minutes on the rest of the field. Amberger eventually finished top dog with a 30 second win over Appleton's second place. 46 year old Craig Alexander indicated he felt a bit sluggish in the start of his first race of the year but came together on the back half of the run and finished 6th place.
