After five months spent recovering from an injury, Australia’s ELLIE SALTHOUSE returned to championship form with a victory at IRONMAN 70.3 Miami. This is the second year in a row that twenty-four-year-old Salthouse took the top spot at the Florida race.

Human Interest Group Sports Director Michael Cardoza praised Salthouse for the podium-worthy performance. “We’ve missed watching Ellie charge through races, so this win in Miami was satisfying in many ways. No athlete likes the downtime necessary to heal from an injury, but Ellie was patient with the process, and now she’s back. Way to go Ellie!”

Salthouse never wavered against a competitive field, clocking the second fastest swim (28:29), bike (2:21:27) and run (1:27:12) times for the day. Her final time was 4:19:57, two minutes faster than the second-place finisher.

It all added up to Salthouse securing her first win of 2017. Before sidelined by injury, Salthouse already had put together an impressive season with 2nd place at IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside,3rd at IRONMAN 70.3 St. George and 4th at IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong.

“Today was so much more than just a race WIN!!!,” wrote Salthouse in an Instagram post. “Today, after 5 months, I can finally say that I am INJURY FREE!!!! Earning my first race win for 2017 was just the icing on the cake…Here's to many more tape breaking moments this year.”
