Heather Wurtele Wins Ironman Canada
Canada's finest long distance professional triathlete female, Heather Wurtele, tacked another Iron W onto her record with a meaningful win at the final edition of the Ironman Canada, Whistler. An epic location, course, and women's field, Wurtele knew she wanted to line up at this hometown BC race given the closing chapter but also because Team Wurtele (Trevor) has history in Whistler, with taking the win at the first edition of the Ironman back in 2013. Posting a 9:20:41 time, Heather came out with the lead group on the swim, took the lead on the bike and held on for the run to take the win approx 7 minutes ahead of fellow Canadian Jen Annett. American Kelsey Withrow rounded out the podium. Canada was Heather's 7th ironman victory which includes more than 30 professional wins and 4 World Championship podiums.
