Paterson Adds Another World Title!
2x Xterra World Champion Lesley Paterson became the 3x Xterra World Champion this past weekend by taking out the field of off road triathlon's best athletes in the annual Maui showdown of the world's best. Paterson who has 5 triathlon world titles to her name (3x Xterra and 2x ITU Cross) marked 2018 as her comeback year after some health and injury struggles of recent years. The Scottish pocket rocket struggled with Lymes disease and committed 100% to regain her form heading into the 2018 season. After posting the fastest bike and run times of the day, Paterson finished in a smoking 3 hrs, 29 minutes and 7 seconds. The bike conditions were incredibly hard this year with mud lining the course that wreaked havoc on riders simply trying to stay upright.
"I had a great swim today and was really happy with it,” said Paterson. “When I got on the bike, I got into the lead pretty quick and tried to stay patient with the conditions.”
Tri Media site said "Paterson continued to dominate the run, passing some of the elite men as she made her way over the mud and the hills. By the time she cruised across the finish line, she had a more than a 10-minute lead over Flipo, who finished second, making this her best performance at the XTERRA World Championship.
