Team Wurtele Ends Season With Another Challenge Win
TEAM WURTELE, Canada’s super triathlon duo of Heather and Trevor Wurtele, wrapped up their 2017 race season with Heather capturing another long-distance win on the Challenge Family European Series. Heather’s victory at Challenge Forte Village Sardinia on October 29th follows her first win at Challenge Peguera Mallorca and Trevor’s podium-topping performance at Challenge Geraardsbergen.

Their decision try something different with Challenge’s European race series paid off and opened them up to new audiences, new competitors and new wins. With her victory at Forte Village Sardinia, Heather took fourth place overall in the European Series, while Trevor came in sixth. Additionally, both took second place at Challenge Heilbronn in Germany.

October 29 – Challenge Forte Village Sardinia (1.9 km swim/90 km bike/21.1 km run)
Heather closed out the 2017 Challenge Family European Series with a dominating victory at Challenge Forte Village Sardinia.
Starting with the swim, when she exited about 40 seconds ahead of Laura Siddall, Heather fought off an intense challenge by the British triathlete throughout the race. It was on the run that Heather established a substantial gap, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:27:26 almost a minute ahead of Siddall. Heather’s splits were: swim (27:51), bike (2:34:55) and run (1:22:12).
October 15 – Challenge Peguera Mallorca (1.9 km swim/90 km bike/21.1 km run)
Thanks to securing the race lead early on the bike, Heather secured her first win on the European Series at Challenge Peguera Mallorca. She exited the swim in fourth place but quickly moved to the front of the bike pack, a lead she held to the end. The rest of the field also was unable to catch Heather on the run, and she crossed the finish line with five-minute gap on her closest competitor.
Heather’s final time was 4:24:42 with individual legs of swim (27:25), bike (2:29:51), and run (1:24:06).

July 2 - Challenge Geraardsbergen (1.9 km swim/90 km bike/21.1 km run)
Trevor christened the inaugural Challenge Geraardsbergen with a smashing victory at the Belgium race.
Powered by a phenomenal run that clocked at 1:13:01 and was the fastest of the day, Trevor captured first place with a time of 3:58:05. Trevor completed the swim at 23:36 and the bike at 2:19:05.
