TEAM WURTELE’S HEATHER NAMED CANADA’S 2016 TRIATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Heather Wurtele received another accolade for her stand-out 2016 season: Triathlon Magazine Canada and Triathlon Canada named Wurtele Canada’s Triathlete of the Year alongside fellow Canuck Lionel Sanders.
Citing her many accomplishments, including the IRONMAN 70.3 North American Championship, four long-course wins, and multiple course records, the magazine stated: “there’s lots of reasons to celebrate Wurtele’s impressive year.”
The award also was due to Team Wurtele’s work ethic, saying “that commitment has earned both Wurtele’s lots of respect in the triathlon world.”
“Trevor and I had very successful years, so it means a lot to be recognized for that,” said Heather. “This year the recognition meant a bit more as I was named Canada’s triathlete of the year, whereas in years past it was specifically long course triathlete of the year.”
“Heather started and stayed strong in 2016, earning wins and titles thanks to dedication and consistent improvement. She’s a genuine pro, always working smart to be better,” said the Human Interest Group Sports Director Michael Cardoza. “It’s great to see Heather recognized by the industry. Congrats, Heather!”
